the significant day of liberation war history Bangladesh*
MUJIB NAGAR IN MAHER PUR DISTRICT IS OUR ROOT ADDRESS OF OUR LIBERATION WAR 1971 WHERE THE THE FIRST GOVERNMENT OF PEOPLE REPUBLIC OF BANGLADESH WAS FORMED 17 APRIL 1971 (DURING WAR) WHICH NOW THE PILGRIM OF NEW GENERATION WITH ITS CREATIVE SCULPTURES ON OVER ALL HISTORY OF LIBERATION WAR 1971.
Mujibnagar formerly known as Baidyanathtala is a town in the Meherpur District of Bangladesh. It is a common reference for the government in exile formed by the leaders of the Awami League, who were leading the guerrilla war for the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971.
Throughout the war with the Pakistan Army, the Mujibnagar government would serve as the nominal head of the pro-independence guerrilla militias, mainly the Mukti Bahini. Although the state gained independence only in 16 December 1971, the Mujibnagar government is recognised as the first official government of Bangladesh.
Following the failure of last-ditch talks on the formation of a government, Pakistani president Yahya Khan ordered the Pakistani Army to launch Operation Searchlight to suppress the nationalist movement. On March 25, 1971 the leader of the Awami League Sheikh Mujibur Rahman signed an official declaration[1] and called upon the people to resist the occupation forces through a radio message.[2] After he was arrested by Pakistan Army and moved to a jail in West Pakistan, M A Hannan,[3] Ziaur Rahman[4] broadcast the announcement of the declaration of independence on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur on 26 March and 27 March respectively and exhorted the Bengali people to resist the Pakistani state forces.
The senior political leaders of the Awami League congregated at the town of Baidyanathtala, which was mainly a mango grove located in Meherpur, when it was a sub-district of Kushtia. Inaugurating the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on April 17, the national anthem Amar Sonar Bangla was sung in chorus. Although Sheikh Mujib was declared the first President, Syed Nazrul Islam was appointed acting president and hoisted the flag of Bangladesh. Tajuddin Ahmed was appointed the first prime minister.
The Mujibnagar government is officially regarded as the first government of independent Bangladesh. April 17, the day of its formation is celebrated in Bangladesh as Mujibnagar Day, a major milestone for the Bangladeshi nationalists . A national historical monument has been constructed at Mujibnagar, and the place remains the focus of nationalist sentiments and the memories of the liberation war amongst the Bangladeshi people.
Mujibnagar Complex established on a 66 acres of land stands by holding the great and sacrificed history of the liberation war of bangladesh 1971.
After coming to the power in 1996 the Awami League government undertook the project named Mujibnagar Complex at Mujibnagar to commemorate the historic oath-taking ceremony of the first Bangladesh government on April 17 in 1971 at the then Baidyanathtala Mango Orchard in Meherpur.
The project comprises motel, helipad, telephone office, six rose gardens symbolising the six-point movement, the war-time map of Bangladesh showing the sectors, Muktijuddah Museum, sculptures and many other monuments to different historical events of the Liberation War.
The mausoleum in the complex with 23 pillars symbolize the 23 years of oppression by the Pakistani rulers.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Mujibnagar on 17 April 1998 and declared that Mujibnagar would be turned into a National Memorial Complex where the real history of the war of liberation would be preserved for research and future generation.
The complex has also a war-time map of Bangladesh under the title Muktijuddhe Bangladesher Manchitra. It was built under the liberation war ministry.
The map portraits several bloody wars between freedom fighters and Pakistani Army at several places under the sector 11, escape of Bangalee refugees to India, attacks on Rajarbag Police Line, the EPR Pilkhana and Jagannath Hall, killings of intellectuals, Rayer Bazar Killing Ground, violation of women by Pakistani Army, Historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu, Major Zia’s declaration of independence on behalf of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Kalurghat Betar Kendra, and many more brutalities by the Pakistani Army.
