বাংলা নববর্ষে শুধু রঙ ও সংগীতের উৎসবই নয়, এটি আত্মশুদ্ধির গভীর আচারও বটে-ভোরের আলোয় সমুদ্রসৈকতে ভক্তরা সমবেত হন পবিত্র স্নানের জন্য- ঢেউ যখন তাদের আলিঙ্গন করে, তখন তা হয়ে ওঠে পাপ মোচনের প্রতীক এবং আত্মার পুনর্জন্মের বার্তা।

স্থানীয়ভাবে এই আচারকে বলা হয় “পুণ্য স্নান”। ভোরে সমুদ্র যেন জীবন্ত মন্দিরে রূপান্তরিত হয়-ভক্তদের বিশ্বাস, ঢেউয়ের স্পর্শে পাপ ধুয়ে মুছে যায়, আত্মা নবজীবন লাভ করে। প্রবীণ নারীর ভক্তি ; ঐতিহ্যের ধারাবাহিকতার প্রতীক — তাঁর কুঞ্চিত হাত যেন প্রজন্মের প্রতিধ্বনি, যারা জলের মাধ্যমে ঈশ্বরের কৃপা কামনা করেছে। চারপাশে নারী–পুরুষ, তরুণ–বৃদ্ধ সকলে মিলিত হয়ে সৈকতকে রূপ দেয় এক সমবেত আধ্যাত্মিক আশ্রয়ে-
